Welcome back to school! We have another exciting and busy term ahead of us.
Lots of our work in English and Guided Reading will be centred around our class book. We will be exploring how authors create suspense in their writing and writing our own texts to thrill the reader. In the second half of the spring term, we will be looking at discussion texts and persuasion texts.
Our class book is called ‘Boy in the Tower’ and is written by Polly Ho-Yen. This story follows a boy called Ade who lives at the top of a tower block, as other tower blocks start to fall down around him. Strange and menacing plants start to appear and no one knows where they came from. If you would like to find out more about the story, follow this link:
In Maths our focus topics are:
- formal written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- comparing, adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions
- area, volume and capacity
- 3D and 2D shapes, reflection and translation

In the first half of the spring term we will be developing our skills as historians and finding out about the Ancient Greeks. In particular, we will be looking at: battles, gods/goddesses and Greek democracy. Our Topic work will link with our Art and DT where we will be emulating the Greek style. If you would like to learn more about the Greeks, have a look at BBC Bitesize - https://www.bbc.com/bitesize/topics/z87tn39
Later in the term, we will be looking at South America in our Geography focus. We will be looking at the principal cities in South America, focusing on Mexico in particular. We will be comparing life in Mexico with life in the UK. Similarly, our Art and DT work will link with this theme.
If you have any questions or would like some more information, please get in touch to arrange a meeting.
